The Changchun Institute of Technology is a multi-disciplinary full-time university with primary focus on engineering, but also offers degrees in management, business and the humanities. CIT is affiliated with the Jilin Provincial Government and recognized by the Jilin Province Academic Degrees Committee. CIT is further recognized by the Ministry of Education and has the power to grant bachelor and master degrees.CIT is dedicated to providing outstanding engineering classes and excellent training programs.
CIT currently has about 16000 full-time students, 213 post-graduate students， 25 Foreign Students，as well as more than 7000 part-time students.
CIT has 17 schools: the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, the School of Energy and Power Engineering,the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Water Conservancy and Environmental Engineering, the School of Prospecting & Surveying Engineering,the School of Computer Technology and Engineering, the School of Architecture and Design, the School of Business Management, the School of Sciences, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of International Education,the School of Graduate Studies,the School of Marxism，the Department of Physical Education, the Engineering Training Centre，the School of Continuing Education, with electrical engineering and automation, civil engineering, resource exploration, 'water conservancy and hydropower engineering' as well as machinery design, 'manufacture and automation', engineering cost and construction, and 'gem and material technology' (altogether 54 professional courses).
CIT's two campuses – east and west of Changchun's South Lake Park – cover a total area of 458 000 square meters, including 78 000 square meters of sporting facilities.
CIT has a Computer Training Center, an Engineering Training Center, a Numerical Control Technology and Manufacturing Practice Facility, a Power System Simulation practice Facility, a Civil Engineering Construction Practice Facility, a Power Plant Simulation Facility, a Geotechnical Engineering and Drilling Practice Facility, an Experimental Textile Facility, a Modern Business Simulation Facility, and
an Engineering Management Facility i.e. a total of 10 training facilities and centers, as well as 140 off-campus training facilities at large and medium-sized enterprises.
CIT was founded in 1951 and during following decades has welcomed close to 140 000 graduates in various fields and degrees. CIT alumni have left their mark in many prestigious projects. CIT alumni achievements and participation: The Three Gorges Dam, The Beijing-Kowloon Railway, The Qinghai-Tibet Railway and other large national infrastructure projects.
CIT participates and focuses on a wide range of international cooperation and exchange i.e. with the University of the West of Scotland of UK; Platov South-Russian State Polytechnic University (NPI) of Russia，the New Mexico State University of USA，the Universitat Rovira i Virgili of Spain，Komsomolsk-na-amure State University，the JADE University of Applied Sciences of Germany，California State University at Chico of USA，Yonam Institute of Technology of Korea，and the Chaoyang University of Technology of Taiwan，the Datong University of Taiwan, the National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology of Taiwan. CIT and the aforementioned institutions have established exchange relations, carried out student exchanges as well as several cooperation projects, exchanged experts and scholars and cooperated in scientific research.
CIT focuses on to the cultivation of international talents and vigorously promotes Sino-foreign education programs . There are currently three Sino-foreign programs in civil engineering, machine design and manufacturing, automation, as well as energy and power engineering. CIT is happy to announce the successful introduction of quality educational resources. CIT offers degrees and diplomas for international students as well as Chinese language courses, undergraduate courses, and graduate-level professional courses in the fields of wooden construction engineering and water conservancy engineering. CIT has recruited students from Pakistan, Kazakhstan, India, and Ethiopia. CIT is committed to expanding its focus on international projects. CIT applied and was approved of for the EU Erasmus International Project cooperating with 10 colleges and universities in France, Germany, Italy, and Russia etc. CIT is supporting its staff in continuously strengthening its overseas learning and training work in order to further high-level international teaching. In the past five years, more than 100 of CIT's teachers have been to the UK, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Canada, and Taiwan. CIT has also conducted visits and exchanges with colleges and universities abroad, furthering the exchange of knowledge.
